Rites of Passage

A growing male carries his little brother. In the troop, like among all families, work is delegated. There is a pride of acknowledgement when a younger monkey is given permission to care for his younger siblings; I have watched young males beg and beg (and sometimes steal) younger individuals from older males and mothers– they so deeply want to participate. To be acknowledged, to give care, and hopefully: to receive care in return.
